First off if you are going full 1x speed route you'll want to buy CD-Rs that support it. People like to say burn at slowest speed but from my experience that's not always the case. Additionally, I have had verbatims (specifically the ones made to look like little vinyl records) that never ONCE burned correctly. Verbatims have always been the “best” but recently I had some that were SO cheaply made I could easily see right through them. Pretty sure it’s as simple as turning a potentiometer on the laser. I also remember being able to turn the power up on your psx laser, but it was a long time ago. Try turning your psx upside down and see if it works better. CD burners have buffers and you’ll notice that they slow their burn speed down when necessary.īoth your psx and your burner could probably benefit from cleaning the lenses. I have burned games at all speeds and had them work fine. The weird grind-y noises are either when the laser is unable to read the disc and resets to try again or the laser is unable to move back and forth properly, which sometimes is solved by greasing the screw that moves it. It’s always best to burn as slow as possible.

Are the CDR-s just bad quality? I heard people mention Verbatim Datalife Plus are better, but they didnt have them here locally and id have to order online, wait, and pay more.
